Who are you?

My name is Roxanne Spray, and I am a wife, mother, daughter, sister, and high school librarian.  I used to be a middle school librarian at a creative arts focused middle school. Some of my passions are young adult literature, the research process, and electronic tools that make reading and research more accessible and enjoyable for students and teachers.

Why do you blog?

For several reasons.  Mainly it's a way to participate in a conversation about school librarianship and to document the cool things happening in my school library. 

Have you always been a librarian?  

No.  In my former lives, I was a technical writer for companies in NC and SC, a graduate student, a writing center tutor and bookseller at a retail bookstore.  

What's up with your blog's weird title?  

Sometimes when you are helping someone find a book, all they remember about the book is the dominant color on the cover. And sometimes it's not even that. You have to be able to ask creative questions and use all your prior knowledge to help someone find the book they want to read.  The same philosophy applies to educational collaboration - sometimes great collaborations come from random, abstract ideas.  

Why are you so vague about people and places in your blog?  And there are no pictures of people on here either!

I believe that my students and co-workers are entitled to their privacy.  If someone wants to be featured by name and picture on my blog, I wait for them to ask me.
